One of the world’s largest coffee companies challenged us to develop a more personalized grocery store shopping experience to showcase in their shopper innovation lab, a mock store which drives executive partnerships and funnels innovative ideas from inception to deployment.
We created custom in-store displays that streamed personalized offers to consumers walking through the aisle. A retail beacon in the display detected the consumers’ phone and sent information to the cloud. Identifying the customer by detecting their phone app, the display returned relevant offers based on their purchase patterns and preferences. In addition, we utilized IR sensors to create a smart-shelf experience, wherein customers could grab a coffee product from the shelf and instantly see information related to that product on a companion screen.
We were able to drive partnerships and pilot programs at numerous large grocery chains, which saw immense value in premium shopping experiences that gave customers a reason to purchase in the physical store. Mass customization helped improve customer connection to both the coffee brand and grocery store.
